A sbagliato is the bitter-vermouth drink where sparkling wine replaced the gin. It is not lengthened with soda, so it is richer than a spritz and still belongs with wine cocktails. Serve it shorter and colder.

If you want the soda version, make the Campari-style spritz and leave the vermouth in the cupboard. Mixing all four (bitter, vermouth, prosecco, and soda) tastes confused.

Questions people ask

Is a sbagliato a spritz?

It is a close cousin: prosecco and red bitter, but with sweet vermouth instead of soda. Easy Spritz lists it with the bitter wine cocktails.
